CNC Operator – Job Description

Job Summary:

An Operator is required to ensure the safe, efficient operation, and cleaning of their machine(s). Responsible for the maintenance of prescribed quantity and quality of product produced. CNC Operators should be able to work with great concentration and precision. They must be responsible and comply with all safety guidelines. A keen eye for detail and great mechanical aptitude are also essential.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Maintain shift log of production & competitive production numbers for daily goals
  • Knowledge of and follow preventative maintenance procedures such as cleaning and lubricating equipment, replacing parts and tooling as necessary
  • Understand specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading mechanical drawings and programs
  • Translate instructions into computer commands so the machines can perform the correct function
  • Navigation of Cam-Way & CNI to operate CNC machine efficiently
  • Maintain tooling data base and adjust for quality purposes
  • Prepare a test run to check if the machines produce outputs according to specifications
  • Produce product with an emphasis on quality
  • Load/Unload glass on conveyor of machine, may use crane for heavier glass
  • Offset and calculate tools as required
  • Prepare and operate CNC machines to perform tasks such as drilling, grinding, milling etc.
  •  Supervise the machines while they execute the tasks and make any necessary adjustments to produce a better result
  • Inspect and measure finished products and compare them with requirements to determine if the process has been completed properly
  • Measure and verify all calculations prior to setting up the machinery
  • Checking the length of the service cut and which path is the safest way
  • Enter all relevant codes to specify the feed, speed, and cut of any toolpath for CNC
  • Provide feedback and maintenance requests to improve machine performance
  • Participate in training and cross training, improvement initiatives including health and safety and quality improvement
  • Adhere to all workplace safety policies, compliances, and regulations
  • Use all required safety equipment, ex: Steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses / goggles, etc.
  • Maintaining production quality-based companies’ criteria

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Glass knowledge is an asset
  • CNC Programming, Concepts is an asset
  • Must be very good with computers and be able to pick up new software quickly
  • Monitor the machinery production lines and troubleshoot issues in the software as they arise
  • Highly punctual
  • Able to work as a functioning member of a team
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently in a busy environment
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations

 

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent preferred
  • Machine operator experience preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Will entail prolonged periods of walking & standing
  • Must be able to lift more than 50 lbs. on a regular basis
  • Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • 45 pieces daily
  • Using tools accurately to ensure high quality products
  • Machine maintenance downtime is low due to daily maintenance
