Glass polishing and edgework are crucial processes in the glass industry that enhance the aesthetics, safety, and functionality of glass products. These processes involve shaping, smoothing, and finishing the edges of glass sheets to achieve specific functional or decorative purposes.

  1. Edge Seaming: After grinding, the glass edges may undergo seaming. Seaming is the process of slightly beveling the sharp edges to create a smooth, safe, and aesthetically pleasing finish. It helps reduce the risk of chipping and provides a better surface for further processing, such as edge polishing.
  2. Edge Polishing: Edge polishing is performed to achieve a high-gloss, mirror-like finish on the glass edges. It is commonly used for decorative glass applications such as tabletops, shelves, and glass doors. The polishing process often involves the use of diamond-impregnated polishing wheels or belts. Water or a polishing compound is applied to the edge during polishing to lubricate and cool the process, reducing heat and preventing glass breakage.
  3. Mitering and Beveling: Glass sheets can be mitered or beveled at the edges to create custom shapes or decorative designs. Mitering involves cutting the edges of the glass at an angle to create a neat joint when two pieces of glass are joined together at a corner. Beveling, on the other hand, creates a slanted edge with a polished finish, often used for decorative mirrors and glass panels.
